What we do

WHAT WE TEACH: Along with rowing, swimming, water safety and great teamwork, we emphasize fun and life skills like learning how to set and meet personal goals.  This might be your sport!

WHEN/WHERE: We practice 4 days week, Mon  to Thurs from 4--6;15 PM.  All practices are at the Jack London Aquatic Center boathouse, on the Oakland Estuary.  This is a 9 monthh program. The season runs from September to December, then again from January to May.

The JLAC Junior Rowing team is open to high school aged girls, grades 9--12, who attend any Oakland Public School or Charter School or who live in Oakland and attend any non-public high school..  To find out how to join click  here

Junior Rowing

WHO CAN ROW: Everyone is encouraged to try rowing; no rowing, swimming or other athletic experience is necessary.   Girls who need swimming instruction will take swimming lessons for the first 8 weeks of the program so they become 'waterproofed' and are comfortable in the water.

WHO WE ARE:  We are part of the Jack London Aquatic Center, a non-profit group in Oakland, CA dedicated to opening up the Estuary to all the communities of Oakland.  Junior Rowing is taught by a team of coaches, volunteers and staff who have coached and competed at the highest levels, including for the US National Rowing team.  Click here for details.
