March 18, 2005 : IOC Member Anita DeFrantz visits the Junior Rowing program

Anita DeFrantz, one of the two US Representatives on the International Olympic Committee, President of the Los Angeles Amateur Athletic Foundation and a bronze medalist in the Women's eight as a member of the US Rowing team at the Olympics in 1976, came to visit the JLAC Junior Rowing team on Friday March 18th.

Anita had spoken earlier in the day at the JLAC Annual Board of Directors meeting, and stayed on to talk to the rowers on the JLAC Junior Rowing team.  Anita sat with the girls for 1 1/2 hours, answering questions and telling stories about her experiences as a rower and IOC member.   She offered advice on why anyone would choose to do a sport as hard as rowing, and on what is was like to be one of the 'groundbreakers' in any endeavor in life.

The team presented Anita with a JLAC team sweatshirt and t-shirt, and invited Anita to come back any time to her new rowing home in the Bay Area.
